 Mustang Fixed Departure - Nepal

Mustang (Lho-Manthang): An ancient Tibet like Himalayan Kingdom, the former Kingdom of Lho situated in the north-west of Nepal and bordering with Tibet Autonomous Region of China. Covering 80 km long (north-south) and 45 km at it’s widest and is at an elevation of over 3720m. Ever since this previously forbidden mountain kingdom was opened for tourists in 1991, the deluge of tourists flocking there has not stopped. The arid, barren land, with pockets of fertile oases, is unlike any other part of Nepal. The life style of the Loba, people of Lho is also unique. The trip to the capital of Lho, Lho Manthang, and back takes around ten days and can be done by partly retracing the way in or by taking a circuitous trail through the outposts of this ancient kingdom. Mustang is also considered as a 'Little Tibet adjoining the Tibet border' and hence it fosters the original Tibetan culture, although it is now politically part of Nepal. Upper Mustang consists of two distinct regions: the southern part and the northern where language, culture and traditions are alike to those of the Tibetan people maintaining their rich heritage and cultural values.
